Portland Winter Lights Festival
Last night I went to opening night of the first ever Portland Winter Light Festival. It was cold but so much fun to be out at night enjoying the art and the lights. I think this is going to be a huge hit and I hope that it grows in size in the years to come. I loved the paper airplane display and the barber pole projections as well as some of the video installations.
It’s taking place now (February 4) through February 6th primarily around OMSI, but there are a number of other installations and performances around the city. It’s free and all ages. I did not take my baby because it rubbed up against her bed time but there were lots of bundled babes there in carriers and strollers.
All weekend the Portland Spirit is offering free rides, departing from the docks near OMSI. They have silent discos each night and on Friday night there will be a lighted bike parade. This is exactly the type of festival this city needs during these dark winter months. Fill up a thermos with something hot and go check it out.

OMSI AND VARIOUS OTHER LOCATIONS
I hope it grows because it was pretty underwhelming. On the other hand, if it does, it will have to move to a location that can accommodate a bigger crowd.
