Sharing Sundays: Easter Animation

A big announcement about this blog, plus my sugar-fueled stop-motion animation about everyone’s favorite Easter Candy.

Happy Easter!
I’m off celebrating with my family today.  Probably eating too much and taking a million photos of the baby. But I’m also announcing a big development here on the blog.  Starting today, I’m expanding my posting schedule from two days a week to three!  It’s a big step for me.  I’ve been comfortable in my two-day-a-week groove for while, but it’s time time shake things up, push myself in new ways and open up a little more.  So I’m getting a little more personal with “Sharing Sundays”.  Every week I’m going to share something about my life.  Projects I’m working on (beyond the blog), things I’m reading, cooking, watching, and listening to as well as the blogs that inspire me.

I’m kicking everything off with a little video!  For the last 10 years I’ve worked as a producer at local news stations.  But two months ago, I quit.  Mostly because of the baby, but also because I was not happy there any more.  My position no longer allowed me to work on the type of projects that interested me.  I was bored.  So one of my goals while staying home is to do some video projects of my own.  The first is a big stop motion animation.    I’ve written the script, storyboarded it out and even tracked the narration.  It is a work in progress that I’ll write more about in the future, but in the mean time, I’m trying to get the hang of a few techniques by making some shorter videos.

I shot the entire thing in my basement with a cool app called the LEGO Movie Maker, then edited it on my computer in Final Cut Express, grabbed free sound effects off the internet and tada!  It is far from perfect…there are some weird feedback lines (I’ve since discovered they are caused by the lights I was using) and I screwed up the animation a few times. But the story and sound effects work, and most importantly I learned a lot.

I came up with this idea, in the middle of the night, as I browsed Pinterest and fed the baby.  If you are interested in the “source material” you can find it here on my Not Christmas board.  But otherwise please enjoy my Peeptacular little video about a sugar fueled car race.  –K
