Steamers

The one thing that sucks about the south end of downtown Portland (I consider it the “business district”) is that there aren’t very many carts nearby and it can be tough to find a good lunch for a good price.  But Steamers Asian Bistro is there for you.  On the NE corner of the PacWest building, right across from City Hall…a little shop that specializes in steamed dumplings.  Think pot stickers.

The basic meal is 4 dumplings, a big pile of edemame, and a little green salad.  Plus you can add a “Bao” for $1.  A Bao is a steamed bun with a filling, I highly recommend their Sweet Azuki.  They also make a pretty decent Pad Thai and their salad rolls are great and come with peanut sauce.

Although I consider it a cheap place to go for lunch, last week I went a little nuts and ended up spending $10 on my meal.  But I did get the 4 dumpling meal with a Bao and a Thai Bubble tea.

Stop by and check them out, I doubt you’ll be disappointed, but don’t be intimidated if there is a line at noon, they get through it pretty fast.
