Sharing Sunday: May Snapshot

A peek behind the curtain. Here’s what I’m up to as I enter the 5th month of motherhood and my 5th (!!) year of blogging…

Good Morning!  Happy Sunday.  Today I’m sharing a little snapshot of my life right now:

Reading: I just finished a great little book called The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. It’s about an old man who spontaneously decides to walk all the way across England to visit an old friend. It is a fun and sweet story. I recommend it.

Watching: Since I brought Brigitte home from the hospital in December, I’ve been watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix and I am almost done! Only 6 episodes out of 153 episodes left.  I have no idea how I will continue without Lorelai and Luke in my life, but I’m going to have to move on.
Just saw Avengers: Age of Ultron at the Roseway Theater. LOVED IT! So much fun.
Also watching Louie, Veep, The Comedians, Game of Thrones, Bob’s Burgers and Brooklyn 99. And my guilty pleasure… yelling at the TV during Family Feud every night. I love Steve Harvey. FAST MONEY!

Listening: In addition to my usual podcasts, I’m loving Slate’s Working podcast “about what people do all day”. They interview people with interesting or unusual jobs about what their days are like. This season features a porn star, UN official, home-birth midwife and my favorite… a bail bondsman.  I’ve also been listening to a little of the Pandora Toddler station (cringe…) but I forgot how much I love the song Hakuna Matata.

Playing: I play a lot of solitaire on my Kindle Fire while feeding the baby in the middle of the night.  But more importantly, I just got over a horrible addiction to SimCity BuildIt.  Uggg!  I have never become so addicted to anything so quickly.  After a week of it consuming all my time, I had to go cold turkey and delete it.  I’m better off, but I’m hoping to find another game to play soon.

Wearing: I basically live in this nursing tank from Target.  I have two.  They are excellent for wearing around the house, and easy to dress up with a cardigan if I go out. On my bottom half I wear a pair of Kensi jeans I got out of a Stitch Fix box last year or a tube skirt from H & M.

Cooking: I am working on a new recipe for my Portland Plates series. It’s a secret but I can give you a hint: I’m doing a lot of baking.  Speaking of baking, a couple weeks ago my parents gave me 4 pounds of rhubarb and I’ve spent the last two weeks trying to use it.  I made Smitten Kitchen’s rhubarb Hamantaschen and a Shutterbean’s rhubarb coffee cake.  I’ve been skipping the beer and wine recently and hitting my liquor cabinet instead.  Cosmos, Pina Coladas and Gin & Tonics are happening.

Mothering:  The baby is 4 and a half months now.  She’s grabbing stuff, making lots of noise and chewing on whatever she can get in her mouth.  We tried solid food for the first time this week: avocado.  She wasn’t really interested.  I think I’ll try some pear next, sweet might help. But…  I’m not really anxious to get her eating.  It’s not necessary yet, and it’s just another thing to deal with so I’m feeling very patient with the process.  We are also working on rolling over and sitting up. Neither is happening yet, but she’s trying. She’s sleeping OK, not great.  She goes to bed at 9pm, my husband feeds her a bottle around midnight, then I usually feed her once at 2am, once at 4am.  Then she gets up around 6:30.  I get about 6-7 hours each night, but often it’s in 2 hour blocks.

Working: Working on this blog a lot.  Behind the scenes stuff mostly, like updating my logo, graphics and about page (in progress).  Plus doing a little “pre-production” on a few upcoming posts.  I’m also trying to find a paying freelance writing gig.  I’m writing for Examiner.com, but have yet to make any money.
I’m also working on a stop-motion animation movie and I’ve dedicated Fridays to working on it.  No blogging allowed.  Storyboards are done, now I’m working on making the characters/puppets and designing the set and lighting system.  I hope to begin building the final set in the next week.  My plan is to start shooting by June 1st.  Eek.  So soon!

So that’s my life in a nutshell right now.  Deep in mommy-land but trying to keep my head above water with some pop culture and a few projects.  Overall, happy with life right now.  Hakuna Matata!
