Baby Lily

Presenting Lily!

This week I went to the Oregon Zoo to see little Lily, the baby elephant.  She was born a couple weeks ago and they just put her on display for the public.  I was bracing for long lines and a pushy crowd, but the day I went, it was snowing! So there was practically no one at the zoo.  I just walked right in and right up to the glass.  She was kind enough to show off some of her moves, check it out:

Here are a couple photos of Lily and her mom, Rose-Tu, screwing around.

Of course, there is more to the zoo than just the elephants.  Many of the warm weather animals, like the lions and zebras, were inside because of you know… the snow.  But lots of other animals, especially the ones that love water, were having a blast.  I should have taken some video of the otters and sea lions, they were having a blast.

The Pacific Northwest animals seemed right at home, but the bald eagle creeped me out.  I was all alone in his enclosure and he was only 20 feet away from me.  He was staring me down with his big sharp beak… he won.  I left.

It was pretty cool being at the zoo in the bad weather.  Everything was quiet and the animals seemed more active then when I usually visit in the summer.  But speaking of summer, they are opening a new exhibit in 2013.. Flamingos!
